Religion and Science from the Viewpoint of Science and Technology Studies (STS) : Research on the Meeting of Scientific Facts and Religious Values Author: Sungook Hong1, Chul Chun2 Source: Theological Studies, Vol. 73 (2018.12.31.), 21-53. Publisher: Hanshin University, Theological Faculty 1Seoul National University 2Hanshin University Abstract: This study aims to illuminate social interaction beyond the normative relationship between religion and science. In particular, this study examines how science and religion relate to each other from a historical point of view. Ordinarily, religion and science have had either a relationship of harmony or of conflict. How has the confrontation and dialogue between science and religion affected our society? Furthermore, this study notes that the intersection of these two worldviews can contribute to future society. This study first examines the relationship between science, scientists, and religion from a historical point of view. Second, it seeks the relation between the problem of the ethos of science in modern society and religion¡¯s response to it. Next, it will explore the notion of religion as a science and value as a fact in search of relevance for modern society. Finally, this study proposes a constructive relationship between religion and science for a post-human society.
